Proponents for clean water held a Water for Life event at Coolidge Park on Sunday so that people could learn about re-purposing water.

Local breweries that are participating in that process are now using recycled water for special craft beers.

The re-purposed water that goes into the beer that has been filtered by Next Round Brewing is to increase awareness around the work done to provide clean water to Chattanooga’s environment.

Two special craft beers were enjoyed by dozens of people at Coolidge Park, provided by local breweries-Naked River and Five Wits-that are using re-purposed water by Next Round Brewing to make the beer.

"I was very excited to taste it because reduce, reuse, recycle, is something I am very passionate about,” said Sarah Sweat, a Chattanooga resident trying the beers.

"What this whole program highlights is that we can take this water before it gets sent back into the Tennessee River,” said Jake Raulston, the owner of Naked River Brewing.

He said instead of getting used water cleaned by the city and it going back to the Tennessee River, New Round Brewing cleans it themselves with extra filtration for them to make the beer.

The Moccasin Bend Environmental Campus and other partners helped these efforts.

"Anything we can do to repurpose, recycle water like this is benefiting the environment,” said Robert Bates with the Kentucky/Tennessee Clean Water Professionals.

It’s a feature of the Water for Life initiative that gets people talking about the importance of clean water, representatives said.

"We do have the technology to clean and reuse water and keep it right here, we do need to be conserving-even though we are water-rich- we don't know what the future holds,” said Wendy Creek with Next Round Brewing.

Eboni Green the CEO of the Clear Chattanooga Brand-the brainchild of Moccasin Bend Environmental Campus-said the special beers are now available for a limited time at the two breweries.
