Local Government Training Workshop:

Preparing for Extreme Weather Events through Land-Use Planning in the Lake Erie/ Niagara River Region

 

Date: May 3, 2017

This one-day local government training workshop will provide Lake Erie/Niagara River region municipal leaders with the information they need to effectively utilize existing tools, resources and practices to increase community resiliency to extreme weather events through land-use planning.

The morning session will cover weather trends that the Lake Erie/Niagara River region is likely to experience, possible impacts of weather events on communities, tools that are available for assessing communities’ vulnerabilities to these events and ways to improve community resiliency through land use planning measures. The afternoon session will focus on how to find and write grants to support community resiliency planning and projects.

This training is hosted by New York Sea Grant, in partnership with Erie County Department of Environment & Planning and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Great Lakes program.

***The morning portion of this workshop is eligible for 4 hours of Local Government Training credit. ***
