The Saratoga County Water Authority currently has an opening for a full time Chief Water Plant Operator position within the Water Authority.
The work involves control over and responsible charge of a Type 1A water treatment facility (as defined by New York State Sanitary Code). Employees in this class are responsible for control of the facilities filtration and pretreatment processes. Subject to the general direction of an administrative superior who allows leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out technical details of the work. Supervision is exercised over the work of plant operators, trainees, maintenance and laboratory personnel.
Thorough knowledge of the practices used and equipment required in the operation and maintenance of a Type 1A Water Treatment Plant containing facilities for filtration with pretreatment or a chemical coagulation; good knowledge of the principles and applications of physics, chemistry and bacteriology as they relate to water purification; ability to supervise the operation and repair of pumps, valves, and related mechanical and electrical equipment; ability to make routine laboratory and field test for control of plant operation; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates; mechanical aptitude; alertness and dependability; good physical condition.
Does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a New York State high school equivalency diploma, successful completion of appropriate level water treatment operator courses approved by the State Health Department and ten years * of acceptable operating experience, at a plant with an appropriate level of complexity.
NOTE: *EDUCATIONAL SUBSTITUTIONS:
A. A New York State Professional Engineer’s License or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Natural Science, or related field from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university may be substituted for eight years of experience.
B. An Associate Degree in Applied Science with major emphasis in Public Health or Environmental Health, including a course in water operations, from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college may be substituted for six years of experience.
C. An Associate Degree in Applied Science from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college may be substituted for four years of experience
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS:
Possession of a Grade 1A Water Treatment Operations certificate issued by the New York State Health Department is required.
