The Town of Niskayuna emerged victorious on Friday in an annual statewide competition to have the best tasting public drinking water in the state.
About 200 people at the State Fair in Syracuse sampled and voted on public drinking water from all corners of the state, and Niskayuna narrowly beat out the second place finisher, New York City.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announces it's fourth annual SepticSmart Week - September 19-23, 2016.
September is National Preparedness Month and this year the theme is "Don't Wait, Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today". USEPA is highlighting several steps that utilities and communities can take during this month to prepare for an emergency that may impact water services.
New York Rural Water Association is actively seeking a Trainer/Technician full time position. Must have a current water certification and multiple years experience at a water treatment plant. Dual certification would be a plus. Must be willing to plan and facilitate one day training sessions and work with operations specialists at their facilities regarding regulatory compliance issues.
As you may be aware, the New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) issued a Drought Watch for the state of New York on July 15, 2016. On August 3, 2016 the NYS DEC upgraded this situaiton to a Drought Warning for the western portions of New York State including your area (see: http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/107222.html). These advisories reflect precipitation levels, reservoir/lake levels, stream flow, and groundwater levels.
The deadline for Round 2 of the Drinking Water Fluoridation Fund is approaching fast. The funding opportunities from the NYS Department of Health support costs related to the construction, installation, repair, replacement, or upgrade of fluoride equipment in drinking water facilities. Both opportunities are now posted on the NYS Grants Gateway.
