The Westchester County Department of Health is currently recruiting for several Public Health Engineers at multiple levels.

Appointments and salary will be commensurate with documented training, experience, certification and/or licensure.  These are Civil Service positions that will require the successful candidate to be appointed from a list of eligible candidates, following examination.

Public Health Engineers oversee and participate in a wide variety of public health programs including water quality and pollution control, public water supply, land development, solid waste and air pollution control, as they work within the Bureau of Environmental Quality in the Westchester County Department of Health.  Incumbents ensure that operations consistently meet regulatory requirements at the local, county, state and federal level.

Depending on appointed level, supervision may be exercised over professional, and technical staff members.

There are multiple pathways to meet minimum qualifications that rise with an increase in compensation and responsibility. However, at a minimum, we are seeking candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and at least two years of experience in public health, sanitary, environmental or chemical engineering.

Village of Malone Announces vacancy for:  Public Works Construction and Maintenance Supervisor

The Village of Malone is seeking qualified candidates for the position of a full time Public Works Construction and Maintenance Supervisor, responsible for planning, supervising, and carrying out a public works program in the Village of Malone. Appointment will be provisional pending a Civil Service exam to be announced at a later date.

Open Competitive - Minimum qualifications include graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of experience in public works activities involving the construction maintenance and repair of streets and water and wastewater systems.

Promotional Qualifications - Current Village employees interested in applying must have12 months permanent classified status currently in the title of Street Maintenance Foreman or 24 months permanent classified status currently in the title of Working Foreman or 36 months permanent classified status currently in the title of Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator/MEO within the Village of Malone Public Works Department.

Position requires possession of a valid NY State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at the time of appointment, and possession of required certificates as issued by the New York State DEC (6 NYCRR Part 6501.11) and DOH, Bureau of Public Water Supply Protection, under the provisions of the New York State Sanitary Code – Chapter 1.

Gore Mountain Ski Area, an ORDA managed facility located in North Creek, N.Y., is seeking a knowledgeable, hands-on operational technician to act as its head water and waste water treatment plant operator.

   This position reports to the Building Maintenance Supervisor, and will need to communicate with the Assistant Manager and General Manager on a regular basis. The primary responsibility is to assure the Venue's regulatory success. Daily responsibilities include performing treatment plant rounds to inspect, monitor and document plant operations as well as managing corrective actions as necessary.  Systems and equipment operations will be managed through preventive and routine maintenance, innovation, operational integrity, communication and training.

Overall operational responsibilities will include operations of waste water treatment systems, potable water systems, building maintenance operations, and assisting coworkers with their responsibilities as needed. Training will be necessary and will result in required licenses from DEC for waste water operations and DOH for water operations.

Agency interactions with The Department of Environmental Conservation, Department of Labor, Department of Health, and other Olympic Authority Staff are routine.

Qualifications:  NYS WWTP Level 2 Operator and water certification or a minimum 4 years' experience, in a related position at a similarly sized facility is required; education can be substituted for the experience on a yearly basis. Computer literacy, basic knowledge of operational codes and regulations, and a valid driver's license are also required. An understanding of the ski industry is desirable.

Compensation:  Classification of Grade and Salary determined by experience and qualifications. ORDA offers a generous benefit package as provided in the CSEA Contract including health, dental, and vision insurances; paid time off; participation in NYS and Employees Retirement Systems; and the ability to participate in New York State Deferred Compensation, a qualified 457-b retirement savings plan.
