Gas Drilling

Each year the Green Panel, consisting of more than a dozen environmental groups, identify bills of special significance known as “super bills”.  This year the  Environmental Conservation Committee listed the “Fracking Moratorium and Health Impacts Assessment” as a super bill.

The bill would enact a moratorium on certain types of natural gas drilling until May 15, 2015, and require the completion of a comprehensive health impact assessment.  This legislation (A.5424-A Sweeney) passed the Assembly, but the Senate has not yet taken action.

Basic Operations Course Starting Soon

Monroe County in partnership with Monroe 1 BOCES will be presenting a NYS DEC approved 60 hour Basic Operations course one day a week from September 11 through December 11, 2013 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at their Training Center on 1574 Lake Shore Blvd, Rochester, NY 14617. 
(This course satisfies the Basic Operations requirement for 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A Operator Certification)

Cost is $975/person. Lunch is included.

ISSUES ACCESSING THE OVERFLOW REPORT FORM

There have been reports of issues accessing the updated Overflow Report Form. The issue appears to involve ADOBE 11, web browsers other than Internet Explorer, and mobile phone access to the form. The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is working on the problems, but in the meantime, here are some ideas to avoid those problems should you need to report an overflow before they are corrected.
1. Don’t download ADOBE 11. Continue using ADOBE 10 until the problem is fixed.

EPA’s New NDPES Electronic Reporting Regulation

EPA’s new NDPES Electronic Reporting Regulation was approved by the White House Office (OMB) on July 1, 2013, clearing the way for EPA to officially propose it sometime this month.  The final rule is expected in June 2014.  The rule will require information from NPDES permits be submitted electronically in order to ensure that the agency has easy access to timely and accurate facility-specific information.  Start the conversation with your elected officials now about
